Studying at the Ontario College of Art and Design sparked my passion for inspiring real emotional connections with creative visuals. That education in Creative Advertising has been invaluable to my graphic design career because it taught me to approach each and every project asking,
“What problem am I solving?” instead of
“What product/service am I selling?”
and to communicate that message with fundamental design elements in the most impactful, meaningful way.

Even though it took me a while to do that for myself…
Avion Design Co. was born out of my obsession with all things Parisien, my love of culture and travel, and my family’s ties to the Air Force.
There’s something similar about the trepidation and uncertainty of booking a big trip AND starting your own business. At the same time, there’s a beautiful calm that comes from being up in the air on your way to somewhere exciting. Flying high above so many lives and stories unfolding below, where anything feels possible for your own.
Broadening my horizons has always underscored my approach to life and work. Growing up in Toronto, going to school and working downtown, I grew used to the noise and the bustle, grateful for the seemingly limitless opportunities available to me. I figured that would always be my lifestyle, even if I ever left Toronto—maybe as a magazine editor or a creative director hosting casually elegant dinner parties in New York. I was never one of those girls whose dream was to have kids and move to the suburbs, which is, ironically, exactly where I ended up. My husband’s an RCAF pilot and was posted to the base in Trenton.
So I packed my bags and left Toronto, along with what felt like most of my career options.
I carved out a space for myself as an in-house designer and marketing coordinator for a local business, but I stayed much longer than I should have out of fear—fear of going out on my own, of failing, of having to crawl back with my tail between my legs.
And then the pandemic happened. My position was put on hold as I was coming back from maternity leave and it forced my hand: time to sink or swim, freelance or bust.
I went for it. And truth be told, it hasn’t been all smooth sailing. I’ve got the expertise and experience that comes from almost two decades in marketing and design—it was the believing in myself part I had to find.
